M.T. Laster is the youngest of the Laster family- a swift, nimble boy who grew into a quiet, broken man. Unlike his brother A.B., he never found an apprenticeship or purpose. When their mother fell ill and passed away, and A.B. was banished to the Forest of No Return shortly after, M.T. watched him flee and was left behind in grief.
Deeming himself useless, M.T. took on a new purpose: to watch the citizens of Duskbury and prevented them from entering the Forest of No Return to ensure no one followed his brother’s fate. The townspeople came to know him as The Watcher,a silent figure said to bring misfortune to anyone he speaks to. His identity as "M.T. Laster" vanished ten years ago, alongside The Magician.

When he was grieving his mother and his brother, he went to Emberstein for one more try at finding an apprenticeship, only to discover the mysterious Will o Wisps of Emberstein, lost souls searching for a body to possess. They appeared on All Hallow's Eve, and he tried to flee into the woods to stop them from posessing him. He could hear their whispers, and managed to find a tavern to hide in, only to learn that very few can hear their whispers. People born with this power are often called "Will 'o Whisperers."

Fun fact - I sometimes picture AU M.T. to be like what the original A.B. would be like if he didnt always smile and was in denial about his issues :,)
